636143406686444947-ap-election-protests-californiaSo that happened. What next? Hold together family, whether you are affected by this election because of your gender or race or sexual orientation or economic status…we must support and protect each other. Friday will be a safe space for everyone affected by the rise of the new regime and talking about what it means and what we can do.

Things we are doing:

– Making space for people to talk about their fears, their futures, and what solidarity will mean in the new age. Safe space/healing space will be observed by all participants.

-Feeling out how unity can be achieved for all the people marginalized by Prez Donnie and to mount the resistance.

-Considering our role as a peace group in a sharply divided and increasingly violent social atmosphere.

-Considering future activities to provide mutual aid, emotional support, etc to one another

Things were not doing here:

-Throwing blame

– Encouraging violence

– Minimizing or marginalizing people’s feelings

The result of the presidential election has many of us in shock, in fear, and disbelieve. The next four years are going to be challenging, but we are resilient, and shall continue to rise. Before we resist, organize and mobilize, let us first center our humanity. We have the right to grieve, and we have the right to honor our sadness.

Join the Miami Workers Center and the New Florida Majority this Saturday, November 12th from3:00-6:00 p.m. for a healing space and gathering. This will be a space for respite, mourning, community, and dialogue.

Let’s make space for community.

8330 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, Florida 33138 (The New Florida Majority)

Sunday, November 13th, 2016 from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM

13th is being simulcast around the country with commentary from the producers. Join Freedom Flicks, the Dream Defenders, New Florida Majority and SEIU Florida!

“The 13th Amendment of the US constitution freed the slaves.” It’s a simple statement, but unfortunately it isn’t quite true. Look it up, read the actual text of the amendment: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, **except as a punishment for crime** whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

Join us as we explore how this small aside has caused so much damage in the US – not just to Blacks, but to immigrants trapped and forced to work in detention centers along with so many other ‘undesirables’ within the country.
